5 Laundry Hacks to Make Laundry Easier

Some things never end, and at the top of that list: dirty laundry and dirty dishes.

While dirty laundry can’t be avoided, there are ways to make laundry easier and more efficient. Appliance Rescue Service in Dallas, Texas recommends trying the following 5 laundry hacks to kick your laundry game up a notch:

1.    Fold Right Away.

Stop what you’re doing and fold the clothes straight out of the dryer. If you really think about it, this task normally takes only 10-15 minutes, and when done right away, avoids the mess of piles sitting around and wrinkles too. Get in the habit of holding clothes right out of the dryer, and even if it’s not put away, you’re still winning.

2.    Pick a System.

Like most things in life, laundry works best with a system. Haphazardly doing a little laundry here and there can leave you frustrated and frazzled. Instead, choose to do one load a day – start to finish – to keep laundry bins from brimming, or dedicate one full day to getting everything done.

3.    Separate the Socks.

Tired of losing socks and the tedious chore of matching socks? Invest in a mesh laundry bag for each member of the family, and instead of throwing their socks in the hamper, ask them to put their dirty socks in the lingerie bag. When it’s full, pop it in the washer and dryer, then return to the owner of the bag to match and put away. No more lost socks!

4.    Sort Right Away.

Have you ever thought to have a divided hamper in your room? Instead of lugging the hampers down to the laundry room and THEN sorting, why not sort when you take the clothes off? That way, it’s easy to throw in a load of whites with zero effort.

5.    Clean the Washer & Dryer.

Want cleaner clothes? Then clean the washer and dryer as well. Regular washer and dryer maintenance can go a long way to keeping your whites white and avoiding major issues down the road.

Hopefully, these tips will help make the burden of laundry a little lighter. And as always, if you ever have washing machine issues and need washing machine repair or dryer repair, call us at Appliance Rescue Service, proudly serving Dallas, Fort Worth, Richardson, Addison, McKinney, Plano, Frisco, Little Elm, Flower Mound, Highland Village, Grapevine, Coppell, Colleyville, Keller, and the entire North Texas community.

Appliance Storage Hacks: Where to Store Food in your Fridge

Did you know that your refrigerator was actually designed in such a way that certain foods should be kept in various parts of the refrigerator – both for optimum convenience and to keep food fresher longer?

It’s true, and while you might feel like you know exactly wehre everything should go in a fridge (let’s face it, you’ve been using one your whole life), Appliance Rescue Service in Dallas, Texas is here to share a few food storage hacks you may not know:

Store Milk on Shelves – in the Back

As you might guess, milk is more apt to spoiling than other items in the fridge. Many homeowners keep their milk on the door, but this is just not optimum for freshness. The temperatures on the door fluctuate the most, since the air changes each time the door is opened and closed. Instead, store your milk on a shelf, toward the back of the refrigerator. Also – keep it away from foods with strong odors, as it can absorb those scents. Ick.

Keep Meat On Bottom Shelves

Meat storage works best when you keep it down low in the refrigerator. This prevents cross-contamination with other foods in the refrigerator and prevents meat from dripping on other foods. Of course, you should always keep your meats well sealed to prevent any drips or spills.

Utilize the Crisper Drawers for Fruits and Vegetables

Those drawers near the bottom of your refrigerator – the crisper drawers – are there for a reason! Use them for fruits and vegetables. Each drawer has valves that allow you to adjust the humidity of the drawer, based on how much humidity is needed to store various fruits and vegetables. Leafy greens need higher humidity; while heartier items like apples and carrots need low humidity.

Hopefully this helps you get organized and extend the life of your food – and your appliance! Should you ever suspect issues with your refrigerator and need Prosper refrigerator repair, call us at Appliance Rescue Service! We offer appliance repair to Prosper, Frisco, McKinney, Plano, Grapevine, Flower Mound, and the entire North Texas area.

Use All Your Appliances to Get that Meal Done at the Same Time

Ahhh – the challenge: getting everything on the table at the same time, piping hot and ready to eat. If you’re anything like us, we typically have one or two hot things, and the rest end up cold before serving. As the holidays approach, Appliance Rescue Service is here with a few tips on how to use all your kitchen appliances to get that meal done – and on the table! – at the same time:

1.    Plan Out Your Dishes and Cook Times.

It’s impossible to be cooking everything at the exact same time and having it all done at the exact same time. The key is to understand what can cook early and simmer, what can be prepared in advance, what needs to be done last, etc. Having a good idea of what steps go into each recipe – and which appliances are needed – will go a long way toward getting dinner on the table hot.

2.    Prep as Much as Possible in Advance.

Before you ever turn on an oven, cooktop, or microwave, plan to prep as much as you can in advance. This will prevent you from scrambling when certain steps – particularly chopping – take longer than you think they will!

3.    Roasting is Your Friend.

When preparing a large meal, remember the value of your oven and how wonderfully easy it is to roast vegetables or meat as part of your meal. Roasting is great because most roasted vegetables are very hearty, meaning they are flexible if you need to take something out a little early – or leave it in a few minutes longer to stay warm. If your veggies are done roasting early, simply turn the oven off and leave them in there with the oven door shut to help them stay crispy and warm.

4.    Start Cooktop Dishes First.

When planning out your cooking order, plan to start dishes on the cooktop first. Boiling water can be time consuming, as can simmering. Plus – if you’re making a stew or soup, those are easy to leave simmering on low while you prepare other dishes.

Can I Remove Scratches from my Stainless Steel Appliances? - Appliance Rescue Service

It can be frustrating to discover a scratch or nick on your stainless steel refrigerator, dishwasher, oven, or cooktop, but all hope is not lost. There are ways to remove minor scratches and dings with easy home remedies. Read on with our tips from Appliance Rescue in Dallas, Texas on how to remove stainless steel scratches with ease:

Step 1: Clean the Stainless Steel

It is very important to clean the stainless steel before attempting to remove any scratches or dings; otherwise, you may end up damaging the stainless even further. Start by identifying which way the grain runs – north and south or east and west. Now, take a soft, microfiber cloth and choose one of three cleaning methods for the stainless area: polishing cleaner like Comet, vinegar, or stainless steel cleaner. Work the cleaner into the stainless steel with the microfiber cloth until it is thoroughly cleaned.

Step 2: Remove the Scratch

You are now ready to remove the scratch! Your first line of defense is a mildly abrasive cleaning product, just as Ajax or Comet. Mix the product with water to form a paste, then gently rub it into the scratch with a damp cloth – going with the grain – until the scratch is no longer visible. If this doesn’t work, then try whitening toothpaste, using the same method as above. Lastly, you can try wet sandpaper by thoroughly wetting the stainless and the sandpaper and gently buffing the scratch with the grain.

Step 3: Condition the Stainless Steel

Once you have removed the scratch to your satisfaction, be sure to condition the refrigerator with a stainless steel polish or olive oil.

If these steps don’t work to remove a scratch from your stainless steel appliance, there are professional remedies you can try. If you have any issues with your refrigerator, oven, cooktop, or other household appliance, be sure to call the experts at Appliance Rescue Service in Dallas, Texas for all your Dallas appliance repair needs.

Are you Cleaning your Stainless Steel Appliances the Right Way?

Who doesn’t love the look of stainless steel appliances? They are beautiful! That is – unless they get smudged and dingy from everyday use – and then they’re not so beautiful.

Having trouble keeping your stainless steel appliances looking good? The appliance repair experts at Appliance Rescue Service are here to offer our advice on how to make that stainless steel sparkle!

Trick #1: Don’t Go Against the Grain.

Take a look at your stainless steel appliance. Can you see the grain of the steel? Always clean your appliance by cleaning in the direction of the grain. If you don’t, you’ll leave your refrigerator dingy and dull due to residue getting compacted in the ridges.

Trick #2: Never Use Paper Towels

Paper towels are one of the worst products for cleaning stainless steel appliances! Your best bet? Cotton or microfiber cloths. Paper towels not only leave paper “lint” on your appliance, but they can also absorb the cleaner or polish – taking if off the appliance and leaving a dull finish.

Trick #3: Use Cleaners from the Pantry

You don’t need a fancy stainless steel cleaner! In fact, many of them are just too harsh for your surface and can damage the stainless. Instead, use hot soapy water or white vinegar to create a perfect, non-abrasive clean.

Trick #4: Olive Oil is the Perfect Polish

After cleaning, grab a cotton cloth and your bottle of olive oil and go to town! The oil leaves a beautiful shine on your newly clean appliances.

Trick #5: Dry Completely

Always dry your stainless steel appliances to avoid any watermarks or splotches that can occur.

Happy Cleaning!
