Your Dryer’s Dirty Secret: The Lint Trap

When was the last time you cleaned your dryer’s lint trap?

Keeping a dryer’s lint trap (or lint catch as some call it) clean is vital to optimum dryer performance. Let Appliance Rescue Service in Dallas, Texas help shed a little more light on this important topic!

How often should a lint trap be cleaned?

The answer is simple: every single time to run the dryer. Lint – or the tiny particles of dust that come off of your clothing as they are drying – is an inevitable part of the drying process. If you do not remove the lint from the lint trap regularly, then the lint begins to build up and can cause Dallas dryer repairs.

What about cleaning the dryer vent?

If you really want to keep your dryer in peak operating condition and avoid Dallas dryer repairs, then plan to clean the dryer vent once every 3-6 months. While a lint trap catches most lint, it’s impossible for it to catch it all. What escapes can get stuck in the dryer vent, causing damage to the dryer – or worse – a house fire!

What are signs that my lint trap or dryer vent is clogged?

Normally, one of the first signs that you have a clog in the lint trap or the dryer vent is that clothes become difficult to dry. It might take more than one cycle to dry, or it may never get dry at all!

If you begin to experience issues with your dryer or suspect a clogged dryer vent, be sure to call the experts at Appliance Rescue Service in Dallas, Texas for all of your Dallas dryer repair needs. Appliance Rescue Service serves the entire Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and fixes everything from dryers, to dishwashers, to refrigerators, and more. Give us a call today!

4 Steps to a Clean Range Hood - Appliance Rescue Service Dallas

One of the most under appreciated appliances in the kitchen, range hoods are rarely cleaned. The result: gunky grease build-up that can be very tough to remove and slows down the overall efficiency of your unit!

Is your range hood and range hood filter in need of a little TLC?

Want to know how to clean your range hood and filter without harsh chemicals?

Read on for range hood spring cleaning tips from Appliance Rescue Service – the best appliance repair company in Dallas:

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

Chances are, you can find everything you need for range hood cleaning in your pantry. Grab the following supplies before beginning your project:

·     Large stock pot

·     Dish soap

·     Baking soda

·     Vinegar or Ammonia

·     Scratchless scrubbing sponge

Step 2: Create Your Cleaning Mixture

Begin by boiling water in your large stock pot, filling the pot ¾ of the way. Once water is boiling, pour in just a tiny dollop of dish soap. You want the water to boil and bubble, but not to boil over during the range hood cleaning process. Next, slowly pour in ½ cup baking soda until mixture is fizzing.

Step 3: Clean the Filter

Once the pot of water is fizzing, slowly lower the range hood filter into the solution. Watch it eat away at the grease and grime on your filter. Rotate the filter in the solution until all sides are clean. Is your filter too big for the pot? Lay it flat in a jelly roll pan and pour the solution over it to clean your range hood filter.

Step 4: Clean the Range Hood

Dip your sponge in the remaining solution and gently scrub the exterior of your range hood until the grime and grit is gone. If you feel like the solution is not doing a good enough job, add a touch of vinegar or ammonia to the sponge and continue scrubbing.

Hopefully this simple cleaning method will help you keep your range hood in perfect working order! Should you ever need range hood repair in Dallas, Appliance Rescue Service is here to help! Proudly serving Dallas, Richardson, Plano, Irving, Grapevine, Mesquite, Wylie, and the entire Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Happy Spring Cleaning!

How to Make your Dishwasher More Energy Efficient

We’re all looking for ways to save money and save the environment – even better when you can accomplish both with just a few simple changes.

Dishwashers use a lot of energy and water, but there are some small things you can do to cut utility bills and feel good about reducing your carbon footprint:

1.   Only Run a Full Load

This may seem simple, but avoid running a load unless it is completely full. This saves energy and water consumption. If having dirty dishes sitting stagnant bothers you, run your dishwasher’s rinse cycle for a quick rinse before washing a full load.

2.   Wash During Off-Peak Hours

Many dishwashers these days are equipped with a delayed start or overnight setting. Some utility companies even offer incentives or discounts for using energy during off-peak hours.

3.   Use the Dishwasher as a Heat Source

In the winter, running a dishwasher during the day or first thing in the morning can give off heat that will help boost the temperature of your home and reduce the burden on your home’s heater. Likewise, do not run the dishwasher during the heat of a summer day, causing more work and heat in the kitchen for the air conditioner to cool.

4.   Skip the Drying Cycle

Save energy by skipping your dishwasher’s drying cycle. Instead, make sure you are using rinse aid – which will speed the drying process – and pop the door open after the wash cycle ends for dishes to air dry.

5.   Don’t Pre-Rinse Dishes

This one may be controversial for the die-hard pre-rinser, but would help conserve water! Most dishwashers are well equipped to clean your dishes, even if they aren’t pre-rinsed. Give it a try if you dare!

If you don’t feel like your dishwasher is running as efficiently as it should, then it may need appliance repair. Appliance Rescue Service in Dallas, Texas is a leader in Dallas appliance repair and can get a repairman out to your home quickly to diagnosis and fix the issue. 3 Signs Your Range Hood is Not Working Properly

A range hood, or vent hood, is an appliance many take for granted. Even at eye level, we don’t always think to clean it or pay it much attention – until it stops working properly.

In order to prevent range hood repair, start paying closer attention to your range hood when it is on. Here are 3 signs to look for that may indicate a range hood issue:

Issue #1: Even on the highest setting, the range hood will not clear the smoke from the room.

If you have a true vent hood that vents air outward, then an inability to clear the smoke from the room could mean several things: 1) Check your duct work. It is very likely to be clogged with grease. 2) Check the motor. The motor may have given out or covered in grease, causing the fan to malfunction. 3) Check the air filter for clogs or debris and give it a good cleaning if necessary.

Issue #2:  The motor is very loud or constantly humming.

Any abnormal sound from your range hood is a sign of an issue. Most commonly, the motor is just dirty and rubbing or grinding against some grease or debris. If cleaning doesn’t help, then your motor needs to be replaced.

Issue #3: Lights or buttons won’t work properly.

If you have already attempted to change the light bulb and your lights still do not work, then the problem is likely the control board. If you are experiencing any sort of electrical issue on your range hood, call an expert immediately.

Problems with your range hood? Give Appliance Rescue Service in Dallas, Texas a call today. Our team of expertly trained technicians can handle any range hood issue, no matter what brand you have. Proudly serving Dallas, Richardson, Plano, McKinney, Irving, Garland, and the surrounding areas.

Wine Coolers - Why It's Important to Keep Temperatures in Check

If you are not fortunate enough to have a giant wine cellar in your home, then the next best thing is a wine cooler or wine refrigerator in the home. Not only do they add pizzazz to a kitchen or butler’s pantry, but they really do extend the life of your precious bottles of wine. But how much? What if I don’t keep my wine cooler properly calibrated?

These are questions that wine storage owner’s frequently ask Appliance Rescue Service. Here are a few reasons to make sure your wine cooler is properly calibrated:

Extreme Temperatures Cause Harm

If you own a wine refrigerator, then you want to keep bottles of fine wine safe from harmful temperatures. Most wines need to be kept between 45 degrees and 65 degrees Fahrenheit to maximize their flavor and lifespan.

Accelerated Aging

When wines are stored over 65 degrees, they are likely to age more quickly. Have you ever left a bottle of wine in your car on a hot summer day and noticed a difference in taste? High heat – even just indoor ambient temp – can cause wine to be more acidic or have a more vinegar-like flavor.

Prevents Wine Maturation

A good, fine wine is meant to be kept longer than 6 months – sometimes years – and gets better and more full bodied with time. When wines are stored at temperatures below 45 degrees, the wine is too cold to fully mature and flavors to develop.

Do you have a wine storage unit and are unsure if it’s keeping consistent temperatures inside or need help calibrating it? Or maybe you need a wine cooler repair? Call the experts at Appliance Rescue Service in Dallas, Texas. Our team specializes in all Dallas appliance repairsfrom wine coolers, to refrigerators, to ovens, and more.
