Dishwasher Issues: Why are My Glasses Coming out Cloudy?

When it happens, it can be very frustrating.

While it’s not a huge dishwasher repair, removing cloudy glasses after a dishwasher cycle is both frustrating and perplexing. What is causing the issue? Should I get a new dishwasher? Here are a few reasons why your glasses might be coming out of the dishwasher cloudy and what we recommend at Appliance Rescue Service in Frisco, Texas to fix the issue:

Reason #1: Too Much Detergent

If your glasses are coming out of the dishwasher cloudy, then one reason can be that you are using too much detergent. That cloudiness can actually be residue left from caked on soap.

Solution: Remove all dishes from your dishwasher and give your dishwasher a deep clean with vinegar. Vinegar will dissolve detergent residue that is lurking inside your machine. Also be sure to switch to pods that will emit just the right amount of detergent into your dishwasher and help prevent the issue.

Reason #2: Hard Water

Did you just move to a new home and are noticing issues with cloudy glasses? It could be the water. Hard water is considered “hard” because it is high in calcium and magnesium, often leaving behind limescale on your dishes or anything the water touches. While you might not see it on your other dishes, it’s more obvious on your glassware.

Solution: Again, vinegar to the rescue! Soak a microfiber cloth in white vinegar and rub down your glassware to remove the film. You can also try newspaper, as it is also a great tool for removing the mineral buildup.

Reason #3: Etching

Another reason your glasses might be coming out of the dishwasher cloudy is that they might be permanently etched. That etching can look like cloudiness, but if you look closely, you’ll see the tiny scratches. This can be a result of too much soap, detergent that is high in phosphates, or soft water.

Solution: If you notice your issue is actually etching the glass, then experiment with different soaps and cleaning methods to see what stops the etching for occurring in the future.

Use All Your Appliances to Get that Meal Done at the Same Time

Ahhh – the challenge: getting everything on the table at the same time, piping hot and ready to eat. If you’re anything like us, we typically have one or two hot things, and the rest end up cold before serving. As the holidays approach, Appliance Rescue Service is here with a few tips on how to use all your kitchen appliances to get that meal done – and on the table! – at the same time:

1.    Plan Out Your Dishes and Cook Times.

It’s impossible to be cooking everything at the exact same time and having it all done at the exact same time. The key is to understand what can cook early and simmer, what can be prepared in advance, what needs to be done last, etc. Having a good idea of what steps go into each recipe – and which appliances are needed – will go a long way toward getting dinner on the table hot.

2.    Prep as Much as Possible in Advance.

Before you ever turn on an oven, cooktop, or microwave, plan to prep as much as you can in advance. This will prevent you from scrambling when certain steps – particularly chopping – take longer than you think they will!

setting the table.jpg

3.    Roasting is Your Friend.

When preparing a large meal, remember the value of your oven and how wonderfully easy it is to roast vegetables or meat as part of your meal. Roasting is great because most roasted vegetables are very hearty, meaning they are flexible if you need to take something out a little early – or leave it in a few minutes longer to stay warm. If your veggies are done roasting early, simply turn the oven off and leave them in there with the oven door shut to help them stay crispy and warm.

4.    Start Cooktop Dishes First.

When planning out your cooking order, plan to start dishes on the cooktop first. Boiling water can be time consuming, as can simmering. Plus – if you’re making a stew or soup, those are easy to leave simmering on low while you prepare other dishes.

Ready to host your big holiday meal? Make sure those appliances are ready too! Call Appliance Rescue Service in Frisco, Texas today to request a service on your oven, cooktop, refrigerator, range, dishwasher, or other kitchen appliances. We are DFW’s best appliance repair company!

Learn The Best Way to Clean a Glass Cooktop

You purchased a sleek, glass cooktop because you loved the way it looked, but how do you keep it clean and scratch free?

We’ll admit – maintaining a glass cooktop can be tricky, but with a few simple appliance maintenance tips, it can be done simply and cost effectively. Here’s the best way to clean a glass cooktop from the Dallas appliance repair experts here at Appliance Rescue Service:

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies.

You don’t need any fancy cleaners to keep your glass cooktop sparkling and clean! Simply grab your baking soda, white vinegar, a sponge, a magic eraser, and a microfiber cloth, and you’re in business.

Step 2: Spray Vinegar.

Wait for the cooktop to cool down, then spray liberally with white vinegar. After it has sat for a minute or two, use your towel to wipe it up and begin loosening any food particles stuck to the glass cooktop.

Step 3: Apply Baking Soda Paste.

Once you’ve wiped off the vinegar, sprinkle the cooktop with baking soda. After it’s evenly coated, place hot, wet rags over the baking soda to let the cooktop “soak” for 15 minutes. The baking soda, when combined with the hot rags, creates a powerful abrasive cleaner.

Step 4: Wipe It Down.

Now that the debris should be loose, gently scrub the debris off of the cooktop and clean thoroughly with another wet towel. If there are still some stubborn spots, work at them with a magic eraser.

Step 5: Polish.

Once it’s clean, give the glass cooktop a once over with a microfiber cloth to buff and shine, and you’re set!

Hopefully these tips on glass cooktop cleaning help keep your appliance in excellent working order! However, if issues occur with your glass cooktop and you need cooktop repair in Dallas, Texas, call us at Appliance Rescue Service. We serve the entire Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and we are the best appliance repair company in Dallas

4 Things Our Dallas Appliance Repair Technicians Will Never Do

It’s hard to find good help these days.

Once person’s experience often differs from another, but here at Appliance Rescue Service in Dallas, Texas, our goal is to provide consistent, top notch service to all our customers. And in keeping with that mantra, here are 4 things you’ll never see our Dallas appliance repair technicians do:

#1: Reuse Parts

Our technicians are highly trained in all appliance brands – from the big box retailers to the luxury brands – and no matter which brand we’re fixing, you won’t find us reusing parts. Each repair is done with brand new, factory parts and the old parts are yours to keep (or dispose of as you’d like). Occasionally, we’ll run into a computer board or transmitter that requires us to send it back to the manufacturer for replacement, and in these rare cases, if you choose to keep the part, we will need to add an additional core charge to the bill. But again, the option is always yours.

#2: Do the Work Without Approval

Each time a Dallas appliance repair technician from Appliance Rescue Service arrives at your home, he will write a full estimate, detailing the extent of the work in writing. It’s then your choice whether or not you’d like to proceed with the repair. Our technicians will never do the work unless you have signed the estimate for approval. Simple as that.

#3: Charge for Defects Within 90 Days of Original Repair

Each repair done by our Dallas appliance technicians is warrantied for 90 days of normal household use. That includes the part and the labor associated with that repair (30-day labor warranty), giving you peace of mind and assurance that if something isn’t installed right, we’ll make it right every time.

#4: Tell You Your Appliance Can’t Be Worked On

From Samsung, to Maytag, to Whirlpool, to Sub-Zero, and more, our technicians are expertly trained in all of the major appliance brands. We work hard to keep up our certifications, so that you can trust Appliance Rescue Service to handle any repair, any time, on any appliance.

So the next time you need Dallas appliance repair, call us at Appliance Rescue Service! We are proud to be a company you can trust.

Why Aren’t My Dishes Getting Dry? – Appliance Rescue Service

There is nothing more annoying than opening up your dishwasher to find that your dishes are still wet, or that there are large pools of water on top of them.

Why Aren’t My Dishes Getting Dry?

First off, let’s talk about how the dishwasher drying process works.

There are two commonly used methods. If you have a dishwasher made by an American company (Whirlpool, GE, etc.), chances are the dishwasher works by using a heating element in the bottom of the dishwasher. As you would expect, the heating element heats up the dishwasher after the cycle, and then the water steams off of the dishes and vents out. If you have a dishwasher made by a European company (Asko, Bosch, etc.), then it’s the water and dishes that are heated up to then create steam that evaporates off. Both methods perform well, but sometimes we need to make adjustments in other areas to support the drying function.

Steps to Dry Dishes

If you find your dishes aren’t getting dry, here are a few tips to dry dishes every time:

1.  Engage the Drying Cycle: Make sure your dishwasher doesn’t need you to specify whether or not the drying cycle should run. Some dishwashers do not automatically run the dry cycle to conserve energy. Also, look to see if your machine has a fan assist function that can be activated to assist in the drying process.

2.  Rinse Aid is a Must: There is a reason your dishwasher has a dispenser for rinse aid! Use it, as it will help the water roll right off those dishes. Out of rinse aid? Try a little white vinegar in a pinch, as it will perform the same way.

3.  Load Properly: An overstuffed dishwasher doesn’t allow the machine to clean well – or to dry well. Make sure you are loading to manufacturer specifications.

If you’ve followed these tips and your dishes still aren’t getting dry, call Appliance Rescue Service for the best dishwasher repair in Dallas. Our team is expertly trained to work on all brands, so rest assured we’ll get your dishes dry in no time!

5 Spots in the Kitchen to Clean Before the Holidays

With the holidays upon us, now is the time to jump in and get your kitchen ready for entertaining and holiday baking. While we all remember to wipe down the countertops and mop the floors, Appliance Rescue is here to share some kitchen nooks and crannies that are often forgotten:

Range Hood

When cooking on the cooktop, we often look down. But do you ever look up? Grease and dust often accumulate up there and it’s not a pretty sight. Use a degreaser and stainless steel cleaner to get it sparkling clean in no time! (P.S. this also helps extend the life of your range hood.)

Small Appliances

Toasters, blenders, and other small appliances often accumulate food debris that goes unnoticed. Take all the appliances out and look at them with fresh eyes, giving them a once over to get them ready for company.

Trashcan

Grab a wet sponge and some soapy water and wipe down your trashcan to remove any spills that can get stuck on the trashcan. If you have a can with a lid, be sure to wipe any food particles out of the cracks.

Oven

We see a lot of holiday baking in your future, so make sure your oven is ready for the action! Create a paste with baking soda, warm water, and a sponge and gently wipe down the interior of the oven. We do not recommend using the self clean function, as we’ve found it can often create more damage than good for your oven and result in Dallas oven repair.

Refrigerator

As we know you’re planning to stock your refrigerator with lots of goodies, it’s better to start with a clean slate. Throw away any long lost leftovers and remove all expired condiments. Wipe out crumbs and spills, and you’re all set for entertaining!

If any of your appliances aren’t working properly, now is the time to get them fixed – before the holiday rush sets in! Call us at Appliance Rescue in Dallas, Texas for a fast, professional appliance repair today! We proudly serve Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Frisco, Richardson, Flower Mound, Lewisville, Addison, McKinney, Grapevine, and the entire Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

How to Remove Scratches from Stainless Steel Appliances

Stainless steel appliances remain the most popular appliance finish out there, and this doesn’t appear to be changing any time soon. After you’ve had your beautiful stainless steel appliances awhile, you may notice an unsightly scratch here or there and wonder – is there a way to get that out?

While removing a scratch may be impossible without professional help, there are some home stainless steel scratch removal techniques you can try to remove the scratch yourself:

Mild Abrasive & Water

Start by purchasing a dry powder cleaner with mild abrasive properties. Examples include Comet, Ajax, and Barkeepers Friend. When combined with water, each of the products forms a paste that can buff out mild scratches and water spots from your stainless steel appliances without major stainless steel appliance repair. Simply apply this solution to a soft cloth and rub WITH the grain of the stainless to watch those scratches disappear.

Stainless Steel Scratch Removal Kit

There are several products on the market that are specifically designed to restore the stainless steel and remove scratches and abrasions.  We recommend trying the Scratch B Gone Stainless Steel Scratch Removal Kit or the Siege 63001 Stainless Steel Scratch Remover. Both products give you step-by-step instructions with specially designed products included to give you the best results possible.

Before attempting any scratch removal technique, always make sure to check the owner’s manual to determine any tips and tricks from the manufacturer specifically and make sure you aren’t doing anything that would negate an appliance warranty!

If you are nervous about attempting a stainless steel appliance repair on your own – even if is just a scratch removal, call Appliance Rescue Service in Dallas, Texas! We’re happy to help with your Dallas appliance repair needs – big and small! Proudly serving Plano, McKinney, Allen, Frisco, and the entire Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Extend the Life of your Microwave with 3 Simple Tips

Microwaves are the workhorse of the kitchen appliances. We use them throughout the day to reheat and cook and generally forget how much we rely on them until they are broken!

The good news is that you can extend the life of your microwave with just a few simple changes:

Tip #1: Clean It Regularly

While this tip holds true for preserving the life of most things, it’s especially true of microwaves. Microwaves operate using steam and microwave waves to cook your food. When spills and food particles get left on the inside of the microwave, they interfere with the cooking process. The caked on food reduces the effectiveness of your microwave and may lead to microwave repairs. It’s also important to pay attention to the seal on the microwave door and wipe it down periodically.

Tip #2: Cover Food While Cooking

In the vein of tip #1, cover all food while you are cooking or reheating. Covering the food reduces the likelihood of spills and splatters, but it also helps prevent food particles from getting in the air and interfering with the microwaves ability to function. Microwave filters can get clogged with grease or food debris, one of the leading causes of microwave failure

Tip #3: Use Microwave Safe Dishes Only

Before putting anything in the microwave, double check to see if it is “microwave safe.” While some plastics are considered microwave safe, we do not recommend heating food in them. Some studies suggest they can break down in the microwave, unknowingly contaminating food. Others tend to melt, getting stuck to the microwave and causing permanent damage.

When microwave issues arise, do not attempt to take the microwave apart yourself and assess the damage. Call an experienced Dallas appliance repairman like Appliance Rescue Service for all your appliance repair needs.

Top 10 Kitchen Hazards to Avoid this Holiday Season

Chances are, you will be spending more time than usual in the kitchen during this holiday season. With company visiting and additional food prep for holiday meals, the “hub of the home” will likely be the busiest part of the home.

Appliance Rescue Service in Dallas, Texas wants you to stay safe this holiday season. While we love being in the kitchen, we also know this room can be dangerous! Here are the top 10 kitchen hazards to avoid this holiday season:

1.   Burns

We’ve all done it. You either tried to grab a dish before it cooled from the oven, had hot oil splash on you from the cooktop, or maybe you just accidently touched the edge of the oven. Whatever the case may be, kitchen burns can be avoided. Use splash guards when cooking on the cooktop and always use oven mitts around the oven.

2.   Knife Injuries

Even the cook with the steadiest hand can make a mistake. Take your time to carefully chop fruits and veggies and always point the blade away from yourself.

3.   Unattended Cooktop

Kitchen fires are one of the most disastrous kitchen hazards. Keep all flammable materials away from the cooktop (particularly if you use a gas cooktop) and never leave the kitchen when the cooktop is on.

4.   Contamination

Food-borne pathogens can wreck havoc on the body and can be avoided. Wash hands often while cooking and never go from prepping raw meat to another task without fully cleaning and disinfecting the entire workspace. Cutting boards are a big culprit, and the minute you start seeing deep grooves in the board where bacteria can hide, throw them out.

5.   Kitchen Chemicals

Child safety locks are essential when storing chemicals – such as cleaning products – in the kitchen. Makes sure all access points are shut off from children and pets.

6.   Spills

A wet floor can be dangerous and cause slips and falls. If you spill something, clean it up immediately so that you don’t forget about it.

7.   Hot Peppers

Hot peppers can burn skin and the oils can get in your eyes and be very painful. Always wear gloves and safety goggles when preparing hot peppers like jalapeños.

8.   Overstocked Pantry

Beware of cabinets or even a refrigerator overflowing with food! Organize food so that there is no chance a jar or other heavy objects can fall out and land on someone’s foot.

9.   Falling

Falls can happen for a number of reasons, but a sudden fall in the kitchen can cause you to drop something breakable, bump a knife, or hit something on the cooktop. Take every precaution not to climb on anything unstable that can increase risk of falling.

10.                 Greasy Range Hood

Range hoods accumulate grease from cooking, and without proper range hood cleaning, that grease can start a fire when you least expect it. Look in your owner’s manual for proper cleaning instructions.

Refrigerator Cooling Issue? Check These 5 Things!

We count on our appliances to work properly, and when they fail, we need help immediately. Refrigerators are one of the most problematic appliance issues. When food – particularly meat and diary items – are not kept at the proper temperature bacteria begins to creep in.

If it seems that your refrigerator is not cooling properly, then it’s important to check these 5 things as soon as possible:

·      Faulty Compressor: The compressor is the lifeblood of your refrigerator and the first thing that should be checked if you are experiencing a refrigerator issue in Dallas. The compressor controls the flow of refrigerant throughout your refrigerator.

·      Dirty Condenser Coils: In order for your condenser coils to function optimally, you must clean them. Most refrigerator manufacturers recommend cleaning them every 6 months, so check your owner’s manual for details. When the coils are not clean, they are not efficiently pushing air through the refrigerator.

·      Faulty Thermostat: This may seem like a no brainer, but if the thermostat goes out in the refrigerator, then maintaining a consistent temperature may be difficult or impossible.

·      Broken Condenser Fan: Not every refrigerator has a condenser fan, but if the condenser is located with the compressor compartment, then checking the condenser fan is essential. If the condenser fan is not functioning properly, then the compartment where the compressor is located will overheat, causing compressor failure.

·      Broken Evaporator Fan: An evaporator fan works similarly to a condenser fan, but circulates air through the freezer and refrigerator. If you hear any sort of rattling behind the freezer, then that is normally a tell-tale sign of a evaporator fan issue.

Still not sure what is causing your refrigerator cooling issue in Dallas? Call Appliance Rescue Service of Dallas, Texas today! Our team can quickly diagnosis a plethora of brands including Sub-Zero, Jenn-Air, Viking, Maytag, Whirlpool, Samsung, and more and get your refrigerator repaired in no time. We're your one stop shop for Dallas appliance repair.

5 Tips for Cleaner Dishes - Appliance Rescue Service

It can be frustrating to begin unloading a dishwasher full of dishes, only to discover that your clean dishes aren’t really clean. Think you might need a dishwasher repair? Not necessarily. Sometimes the problem begins before the dishwasher even begins running! Follow these simple tips to cleaner dishes today:

1.     Don’t Overload the Dishwasher: It’s tempting to pack your dishwasher to capacity, but resist the urge. Leave appropriate gaps between dishes so that the water can spray into the cracks and get everything sparkling clean.

2.     Pre-Rinse with Water: Even if you have one of the best dishwashers on the market, pre-rinsing all of the food off of the dishes will improve functionality. Be sure to rinse with water only, because soap residue can stick to the dishes and leave a film.

3.     Make sure your Water is Hot: Have you ever turned on your kitchen sink and had to wait several minutes before hot water arrived at the spout? This same effect can take place in your dishwasher, which means your dishwasher is filling with cold water – not hot water. Hot water is optimum for getting the cleanest dishes. Ensure the best clean by running water at your kitchen sink until hot water comes out, then turn it off and start the dishwasher.

4.     Less is More with Dishwasher Detergent: Repeat after me, “my dishes will not get cleaner if I use more soap.” Use the recommended amount of soap, and do not overfill the dispensers. Again, too much soap will leave a film on the dishes and make them appear dingy.

5.     Place Detergent Tablets in the Bottom of the Washer: If you use detergent tablets for your dishwasher, place the tablet in the bottom of the dishwasher – as opposed to in the soap dispenser. This allows the dishwasher more time to dissolve the soap tablet and rinse all of the soap off of the dishes.

Is it Really Necessary to Change my Refrigerator's Water Filter?

In short – yes!

When you buy a new refrigerator – whether it’s a Maytag, GE, Jenn-Air, Sub-Zero, etc. – chances are it’s going to have a water filtration system to keep your water crystal clear and clean. Most manufacturers recommend changing these filters every 6 months, and for good reason! Check out these 4 reasons to change your water filter regularly:

1.     Changes in Taste & Smell: Ever tasted tap water after you’ve gotten used to using filtered water? Does it smell or taste different? This is because the filter is there to filter out minerals, chemicals, and microbes that could be floating around in your water. The filter is there to take the filtering the city does to an extra degree to ensure tastier, fresher water.

2.     Clogs in the Dispenser: When the filter begins to breakdown and stop doing it’s job, hard minerals are not scrubbed out and make it through to the water. These minerals can not only change the taste of your water, but they can clog up the tubing to your dispenser, making it difficult for the water to pass through.

3.     Cloudy Ice: If you are looking at a cup of unfiltered water, you many not be able to notice the additional minerals, chemicals, and microbes in the water. But freeze it – and it will tell a different story. When you haven’t changed your filter, these deposits are not filtered out of the water, and when frozen, the water will appear cloudy – giving you anything but crystal clear ice.

4.      The City Doesn’t Always Get it Right: Our local municipalities work their hardest to filter the water and meet appropriate standards for drinking water. But this varies from city to city, state to state. A water filtration system in your refrigerator – with a good filter – is going to give you the maximum protection from heavy metals, microbes, chemicals, or added minerals that could be in the water supply.
