Dishwasher Making Noise? Learn What it Means from Appliance Rescue Service.

Dishwashers are very handy in the kitchen, saving us precious minutes that we would otherwise spend washing and drying dishes individually. But when your dishwasher is making loud, strange sounds, it can be concerning. Before there is a major issue with your dishwasher, learn why your dishwasher is making noise and what those noises mean, from Appliance Rescue Service in Dallas, Texas:

Swishing Noise

If you hear a swishing noise in your dishwasher, there is no cause for alarm. During the wash cycle, the spray arm will spray water into the basin and that is the noise you are hearing.

Loud Banging Noise

If the noise is especially loud, like a loud banging that might echo a little afterward, then you might have a water hammer that needs professional attention. A water hammer occurs when a valve is shut off quickly and the water is forced to “bang” against that closed valve.

Rhythmic Thumping or Knocking Noise

A rhythmic thumping or knocking noise can usually be attributed to a spray arm hitting something inside the dishwasher at regular intervals. Open the dishwasher door, take a peek inside, readjust anything that might be hitting, then restart the dishwasher. The problem should be solved, but if it isn’t, then give a dishwasher repairman a call.

Squealing Noise

Is your dishwasher new? New dishwashers do not have water inside them yet, so sometimes a new unit can squeal a little as mechanisms begin working and water has not fully filled the dishwasher cavities yet. The same issue can occur in a vacation home where a dishwasher goes months without use. If you suspect this is an issue, try pouring a little water in the bottom of the dishwasher basin before starting the cycle to see if it solves the issue.

Humming Noise

A mild humming noise can be normal, but if it’s loud or constant, then it could be a faulty motor or a fan that needs replacing. Call a professional dishwasher repairman to properly diagnose the issue.

The Forgotten Appliance: Troubleshooting Vent Hood Issues

We all think about cleaning our refrigerators, dishwashers, cooktops, and ovens, but how often do you think about vent hood maintenance?

Vent hoods are typically the forgotten appliance. You’re happy with how they are doing until they are no longer running well. Here are a few signs from Appliance Rescue Service in Dallas, Texas that indicate it is time for some TLC and possibly vent hood repair in Dallas:

1.  Vent Hood Not Clearing Smoke.

First, it’s important to diagnose whether your vent hood truly vents out of your home, or if it circulates the air to clean it? Either way, if the smoke does not appear to clear – even on the highest setting – then something isn’t functioning properly. The issue might be as simple as a dirty air filter that needs to be cleaned and reinstalled. Or, the issue could be more involved – like a worn out vent hood fan motor or grease clogged vent. If you can’t immediately diagnose the issue, it’s a good idea to call the best appliance service in McKinney, Plano, and Dallas to take a look.

2.  Vent Hood Makes Loud Noises When Running.

You know when an appliance is running properly, and when it just doesn’t sound right. If your vent hood sounds like it needs a little TLC, then it probably does! The issue is likely with the motor, either it’s rubbing against something because of grease buildup or it might just be time for the motor to be replaced. Clean the unit thoroughly, and if that doesn’t solve the issue, call us to diagnose the issue.

3.  Vent Hood Won’t Turn On.

After checking the electrical box to make sure there isn’t a tripped circuit, come back and see if your vent hood will turn on. If nothing works, then you’re likely looking at a control panel malfunction and that will require a professional to diagnose and replace. Depending on the age and brand of your vent hood, replacing the unit might be a better option, but our technicians can make a recommendation after evaluating the problem.

If you’re experiencing any issues with your vent hood, do not hesitate to call us at Appliance Rescue Service – the best appliance service in McKinney and all of North Texas!

5 Ways to Extend the Life of Your Garbage Disposal

As the holiday season approaches, the last thing you want is for your garbage disposal to go out! You’ve got company to host and meals to cook, and no time for garbage disposal repair!

Before we enter into the crazy holiday season, remember these 5 tips for extending the life of your garbage disposal from Appliance Rescue Service:

1.  Cold Water Only

You may think you’re helping to kill germs and clean the disposal when you use hot water, but think again! Hot water makes food in your disposal mushy and more likely to stick to the edges. On the other hand, cold water will harden the food, preventing sticking as it grinds.

2.  Follow with Water + Dish Soap

After the disposal is done grinding the food, put a little dish soap in the stream of water and allow the disposal to keep running for another 30 seconds to a minute. The dish soap and water will help clean the disposal and drain pipe, all while preventing a clogged drain by adding a little extra run time.

3.  Run it Once a Day

Make an effort to run the garbage disposal once a day. Running it regularly will prevent any buildup or residue in the disposal and keeps everything is good working order.

4.  Citrus Freshens

Any time you are cooking with lemon, lime, or oranges, throw the peel in the disposal instead of the trash! The citrus peel is great at providing friction on the blades that breaks down any residue, and it also freshens and disinfects naturally.

5.  Remember what NOT to Throw In the Disposal

While garbage disposals can handle a lot, there are certain items you should never put in the disposal:

·     Non food items: glass, rocks, etc. have no place in a disposal – unless you want to break it.

·     Starchy foods: pasta, potato peels, rice, etc. will cling to the blades and cause clogged pipes.

·     Fats: oil and cooking fat should never go down the drain.

Hopefully these tips keep your garbage disposal running smoothly through the holiday season and beyond! As always, if you ever need an appliance repair company in Plano or the surrounding Dallas area, you know that Appliance Rescue Service is here for you!
